Похоже не договорились с Крисом или зажали его версию для какого-нибудь леера “When this assignment came in, I had to do a double take and ask out loud, “Wait, so like one of THOSE swords???” Then I was very confused as to why I was getting this, and not Chris Rahn as they’ve typically been done by him all along…but I figured there must be a good reason, so with a big GULP, I got to the drawing board. The basic idea here was to show the sword being held aloft by the arm of a Mirran soldier somewhere in the Mirrex sphere. The tricky part was that the sword had to follow the very geometric design of the Mirran weapon concepts set forth in the style guide, but also adhere to the two-pronged mana affected blades. You can see in the drawing I began with a bit slimmer blades and had planned to have flames coming from the red blade. But after some discussion, the art director decided to remove flames on the blades so that the hexagonal pattern could be utilized in both. This all renders the sword a bit more futuristic looking than previous versions, but I think that makes it unique. I made a model of the sword out of cardboard and coroplast to help with photos, which is maybe a bit further than I would typically go, since I have other more medieval style swords. But this shape was so unique, it was very helpful to work from a closer model in the photos. I’ve obviously taken inspiration from the many great swords that Chris Rahn has done over the years, and tried to stay within a similar feel and format to those as was requested in the assignment. It was a great challenge and honor to get to work on one of these, and I’ve tried my best to do this one justice.”
